The State of Kuwait is home to remarkable biodiversity, particularly in bird species, thanks to its strategically important geographic location. It serves as the main gateway and migratory corridor for birds travelling from Northern and Central Asia, and is widely recognized by birdwatchers as a major “bottleneck” for bird migration.

Bird migration is driven primarily by the search for food and the need to escape harsh weather conditions. The abundance and diversity of bird species also reflect the availability of suitable food sources. Among the most common are wading birds and shorebirds, which rely heavily on mudflats that provide rich feeding grounds, including fish, crustaceans, and worms.
